African Honey

All Honey Is Not Created Equal

From unnecessary additives to impurities, honey in peoples’ kitchens is not created equal. What’s our secret? We don’t keep secrets. We’re an open book when it comes to the pride in our process. Nurture an environment that is ideal for bees and let them work their magic – that’s our philosophy. And here are the results.

Honey Excellence

In addition to being organic, non-GMO, and completely free of glyphosates, which are herbicides sometimes used in agriculture, pollen-rich B1 provides the same robust medicinal benefits you look for in ultra-premium honey without the medicine taste. With a mellow flavor and bolstered by antioxidants, B1 honey is ideal for your wellness journey and when you want to treat yourself to something special.

HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural) is an organic compound usually not found in fresh honey but is formed during heating and refining. Low HMF levels are an important and differentiating standard in defining the quality of minimally processed honey, with levels of 20 mg/kg serving as a benchmark for the very best honey. That is why B1 is proud to test at remarkably low levels of 9 mg/kg or less, ensuring every batch is exceptionally pure.

Small Scale Farms

Our hives are located in rural Zambia, hundreds of kilometers from any major roads in an area renowned for both African honey and pristine spaces ideal for beekeeping. There is no commercial agriculture in the region, which means no contamination due to pesticides and pollution.

Bee Considerate

African bees are very comfortable in the environment where B1 farms are located, high in the Mutondo tree in custom-built top bar beehives. We ensure a mutually-beneficial relationship with each colony – period. When it’s time to harvest, we never strip away all the honey. We only harvest by hand from the second story of the hive, leaving plenty for the bees to thrive.

Traceability

Highly regulated for quality control, the source of every batch is carefully tracked by farmer name, location, and identification number – right down to the tree from where it originated. Think of it as your honey’s unique fingerprint.
